Midnight Constellation Paula - Dodog - Masahide
By prof. Mauro Corradini
I would begin talking about introduction in Midnight Constellation catalogue by a semiotician who said two extremely interesting things: first the title: Midnight Constellation, in a country like Italy, on the seaside, it's a reference for travelling. They (the artists) are reference for the others and for themselves too.
The work of art is a sort of epiphany, a revelation. The work of art tells something that the artist keep inside himself, and that maybe he doesn't has a rational knowledge. But in the moment that that idea become an image it ends its story and its gestation, its effort and sometimes suffering. He translates these signs in something that He can recognize himself. It becomes a definitive element.
This can helps us to understand the changeover of art. These artists are all joung, they were born after the second World War.
We are coming from a culture of art where image was more legible than words (holy art). Art was something simple to understand. In Italy 150 years ago 95% of population was uneducated.
The first evolution let us know that art was expression of ourselves.
The first 50 years of last century taught us this. What you have to say is more important of how you say it. they destroy grammar of art.

The 3 artists are going to tell about what they have inside, not only about themselves. They can carry us to an authenticity in looking at their artworks too. In a moment that we lost our look/glance. We don't look anymore. There are a lot of ugly architecture around us (in Italy). Why? we lost our look/glance. But these artist stop us and show us what they have to say inside. And we have a lot in common with them (look at his ungently signs - Kudo). They show us things that belong to us too, but we forgot them. These works tell us that we have to save our look because otherwise we can't talk between ourselves because we lost other people.

So here an indonesian, a japanese, an european/dutch have the same vision we have. Any differences make us growing up with freedom, honesty, clarity and joy. so suddenly we can say "ol' boy, I understood too". They ask us to stop and pay attention to come into a fantastic world, their world that is complete and full of joy of life, full of freshness. These flowers (Dodog) seems to be made by a child, they seems to be an erotic manga. and this urgently signs (kudo) and this 70's signs but with overlapping in a special way (Paula and Kudo)
We have to re-gain their vision. Because we need it to keep on understanding and to open our eyes that were closed for so long time.
